INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR: STRATEGIC AND POLICY ORIENTATIONS FOR IMPORT AND EXPORT OF GOODS TO IMPLEMENT SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN VIETNAM BY 2030

On the afternoon of March 25, 2022, at the headquarters of the Institute No. 17 Yet Kieu - Hanoi, Vietnam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade (VIOIT) - Ministry of Industry and Trade held an international scientific conference with the theme "Orientation in strategy and policy for import and export of goods to implement sustainable development goals in Vietnam by 2030" - Import and Export of goods for Vietnam's sustainable development towards 2030.
The conference took place in two forms, an offline conference at the Institute's headquarters and via the Zoom online application. Conference attendees include Dr. Nguyen Van Hoi - Director of Vietnam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade, Mr. Ayumi Konishi - Senior expert/VIOIT moderator, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Trade Promotion Department, international and domestic scientists, together with interested delegates.

The purpose of the conference was to create a forum to discuss and provide scientific arguments for the formulation of strategies and policymaking for the import and export of goods for the purpose of sustainable development in Vietnam by 2030.
The content of the workshop included: (i) Viewpoints and orientations for import and export of goods to meet the requirements of sustainable development in Vietnam in the period of 2021 - 2030; (ii) Exporting goods by the market; (iii) Solutions to support businesses. Based on the discussion of the above contents, the workshop hopes to find a scientific basis for the formulation of import-export strategies and policies, and at the same time learn from international experiences and draw lessons for the future of Vietnam.
More than 30 papers have been submitted to the Institute and 6 papers have been selected to be presented at the conference:
+ Part 1: Commodity import and export strategy: with a presentation by Dr. Nguyen Van Hoi - Director of Vietnam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade with the presentation: "Perspectives and orientations for import and export of goods to meet the requirements of sustainable development in Vietnam in the 2021-2030 period" and the presentation "Growth in export turnover and output of Vietnam: Research on strategic policy model" by Prof. Dr. Tran Van Hoa from Victoria University, Australia.
+ Part 2: Exports by products and markets: with a presentation by Dr. Phan Tue Anh from the Institute of Innovation and Public Purpose, the University of London on “Opportunities and challenges for Vietnam's energy market opening in relation to its ASIA neighbors” and the presentation "Vietnam - European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and Vietnam's rice export prospects" by Dr. Dinh Cong Hoang - Institute of Africa and Middle East Studies.
+ Part 3: Solutions to support businesses: with the presentation of Master Le Trieu Dung - Director of Trade Remedies Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade: “Some solutions to deal with anti-subsidy measures for goods Vietnam's exports" and the presentation "Strengthening the enforcement of competition laws and policies to promote the development of international trade in Vietnam" by Mr. Bui Nguyen Anh Tuan - Office of the Competition Council, Ministry of Industry and Trade.
After each presentation, the delegates made comments, assessments, contributed ideas, exchanged discussions for the speakers to complete the content.
At the seminar, Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade highly appreciated the articles of the speakers. All the presentations will be important content for the Trade Promotion Department in the process of consulting and proposing policies on solutions to combat subsidies against export goods, as well as competition policy, strategy for export, trade strategy in the domestic market, and export promotion activities for Vietnam in the coming time.
At the end of the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi - Director of Vietnam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade would like to thank the state management agencies, leaders of the Departments under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, who participated in the role of scientific experts, along with experts and scholars in many locations around the world and the participants contributed profound, candid and open opinions... The workshop ended successfully in the afternoon of the same day.
